Tom Holland says the Marvel Cinematic Universe needs to represent more than just the ‘straight white guy’.
The lack of an out LGBTQ+ character in the MCU has been a subject many fans of the hit superhero franchise are wanting to see in one of the upcoming movies.
Despite many Marvel characters have come out in the comic books, we are yet to see any of the MCU characters come out.
And now, Holland, who is set to reprise role as the young webslinger in the upcoming Spider-Man: Far From Home movie – which will be released in UK cinemas tomorrow (July 2) –has called for more diversity in the MCU.
While speaking to the Sunday Times Culture magazine, he was asked about whether there will be an LGBTQ+ superhero in the future, and he said: “Yeah, of course.
“I can’t talk about the future of the character because honestly I don’t know and it’s out of my hands.
“But I do know a lot about the future of Marvel, and they are going to be representing lots of different people in the next few years.
“The world isn’t as simple as a straight white guy. It doesn’t end there, and these films need to represent more than one type of person.”
