Legally Blonde almost had a lesbian ending, say cast members

Justice for Elle and Vivian!

Legally Blonde was almost a lesbian masterpiece that ended with Elle and Vivian flying off into the sunset, it has been revealed.

The movie’s actual ending sees aspiring lawyer Elle, played by Reese Witherspoon, graduating from university and giving an inspiring speech at the ceremony.

However, according to actress Jessica Cauffiel [pictured below with her daughter], who plays Elle’s friend Margot in the film, there were actually two radically different endings in the running.

“I’ve been waiting for somebody to leak that for 20 years”

Speaking to the New York Times, the star explained: “The first ending was Elle and Vivian in Hawaii in beach chairs, drinking margaritas and holding hands. The insinuation was either they were best friends or they had gotten together romantically.”

(Legally Blonde cast member Alanna Ubach remembered the same, reports the NYT – but the screenwriters have disputed the recollections.)

Cauffiel, also known for roles in White Chicks and Urban Legend: Final Cut, added: “The second or third ending was a musical number on the courtroom steps, and as Elle came out, the judge, jury and everybody in the courtroom broke into song and dance.

“I’ve been waiting for somebody to leak that for 20 years.”

Imagine!

Cauffiel also appeared in the 2003’s Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde, and will return for the upcoming Legally Blonde 3.
