John Barrowman has described receiving his MBE as “one of the proudest days” of his life.

The Torchwood actor revealed that he is “chuffed” with the honour, in a video recorded in Sydney, Australia.

Barrowman was one of the stars named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, receiving an MBE for services to entertainment and charity.

He said: “It’s been the hardest thing for me to keep this a secret, but I’m glad it’s out now, because this is probably one of the proudest days of my life.

“I can’t tell you how honoured I am to get this MBE, to be recognised by Her Majesty, and also by the United Kingdom, because that’s where I consider my home.”

The actor, TV presenter and singer was born in Glasgow, and he said that he is “proud to be Scottish” and “proud to be part of Great Britain”.

Angelina Jolie was made an honorary Dame in the Birthday Honours, while three-time Oscar winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis was knighted.
