Joan Rivers officiated a surprise gay wedding at a book signing in New York City on Monday (June 30).

Jed Ryan and Joe Aiello decided to ask Rivers if she would marry them after reading in her new book, Diary of a Mad Diva, that she is an ordained minister.

The Fashion Police presenter was quick to agree to the request and invited the couple of three years up on stage for the impromptu ceremony.

Joe told Entertainment Tonight: “While we were waiting, we were reading the book. She mentioned being an ordained minister, and I jokingly asked [Ryan], ‘Do you think it’s true? Maybe she’ll marry us.’ And he goes, ‘Ask her.’

“So I did. I don’t think he really thought I would, and neither one of us thought she’d say yes!”

Rivers was clearly emotional after performing the service, as the couple said “I do” and kissed one another.
