‘Glee’ creator denies rift between stars Michele, Rivera

By Will Stroude

gleeGlee

creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy has denied recent reports of on-set tension between two of the show’s stars.

Last month (April), a representative for Naya Rivera – who plays feisty lesbian Santana – was forced to deny reports that the 27-year-old had been dropped from the show following a long-running feud with fellow cast member Lea Michele, who plays Rachel.

Speaking to Extra TV at the premiere of his new TV film The Normal Heart, Murphy denied that Rivera had been axed from the cast, and played down rumours of an off-screen rift between the pair.

“I don’t think there is a story between Naya and Leah,” he said.

“I always marvel at the things that become headline news that most of the time are completely fabricated. Naya’s coming back next year, Lea’s coming back next year, anybody ever in that cast has an open invitation to come back and finish the character they so beautifully started.”

Meanwhile, it was reported earlier this week (May 12) that the sixth and final season of Glee may be shorter than originally planned. The sixth season will now not begin until midway through the 2014-15 US TV season, and while the Fox network originally ordered 22 episodes, this total could be trimmed down.

The final episode of season five aired in the US last night (May 13). Glee currently airs on Sky1 in the UK.
