Drag Race UK’s Kitty Scott-Claus on shaking up the Drag Race franchise: ‘drag is for everybody’

Drag Race UK’s Kitty Scott-Claus has ru-vealed how she would shake up the Drag Race franchise and says she would make it a show for everyone.

The drag queen joins Ella Vaday and Krystal Versace in the top three heading into tonight’s (Thursday 25 November) grand finale, which will see one of them crowned the UK’s next drag superstar.

Speaking to Attitude and Tia Kofi for Tea Time, in association with TAIMI, Kitty Scott-Claus says she also received some helpful advice from some Drag Race UK royalty.

Asked about switching up the franchise, which has been running in the UK for three series and in the US for 13 (going on 14), Kitty has some ideas of how she’d shake it up.

“I’d have drag kings, I would have drag things for people who don’t want to define themselves into a drag king or queen. I’d have it for everybody because drag is for everybody.”

And just for herself, she’d replace the hunks of the Brit Crew with Brit Dads who she says would all be obsessed with her. “Obviously [it] goes without saying, [they’ve] never seen beauty like this. They’d just think ‘Phwoar, what a woman!’.”

The Birmingham queen also spoke to Drag Race UK series 2’s Tia Kofi about what advice Kitty’s Gals Aloud drag sister and Drag Race UK series 1 star Cheryl Hole gave her before entering the werkroom.

“She was the most incredible resource and world of knowledge,” Kitty says. “I feel so grateful and so lucky that I have such an incredible drag sister and such an incredible friend that would do that for me,” she adds.

Continuing she says: “The biggest piece of advice she said to me that stuck with me, she was just like, you need to love every day as if you know you’re going to go home,” which Kitty says allowed her to enjoy the experience.

The 29-year-old has been supported along the way by the likes of Drag Race’s Bob the Drag Queen and Monét X Change, as well as Queen of the Huns, Lisa Scott Lee, who Kitty reveals she’d love to play in a hypothetical Steps drag tribute act (“I’d give Lisa a really good whack.”)

On making it to the final, Kitty says she did at one point think “I’ve got this in the bag! I’m gonna smash it!” However, this changed when she met the other contestants where it felt more like a scene from the Hunger Games.

Kitty has also made Drag Race herstory this series, as the only queen to win a sash after the Fugly fashion ball challenge reminding us: “No one else has ever won a sash.”
