AJ Pritchard speaks out after brother Curtis’ ‘Love Island’ kiss with Tommy Fury sparks sexuality speculation

"You don't have to question what you've done as long as you're happy in that moment."

AJ Pritchard has spoken out after his brother Curtis’s recent Love Island kiss with co-star Tommy Fury sparked speculation about Curtis’s sexuality.

Strictly Come Dancing star AJ, 22, reminded people that “it’s 2019” after the kiss broadcast in an episode of the ITV2 reality series last week led to some viewers to question whether Curtis was straight – because sadly, platonic intimacy between two men is still seen as taboo.

“It’s 2019. He can kiss Tommy on the lips,” AJ told OK! Magazine when asked about the speculation.

Professional dancer AJ, who was celebrating WorldPride in New York over the weekend after boarding Virgin Holidays and Virgin Atlantic’s first ever Pride Flight, explained that his brother’s happiness was the only thing that mattered to his family.

“For us it’s always about being happy,” he explained. “You don’t have to question what you’ve done as long as you’re happy in that moment.”

AJ and Curtis’s mum Debi was in agreement, saying: “Curtis is comfortable enough in his sexuality to be confident in expressing himself. It doesn’t matter how other people perceive it.”

She added: “Everyone questions everything. It’s sadly the way the world is evolving, but you just have to accept people as they are.”

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
