Lady Gaga and Harry Styles to co-chair the ‘camp-themed’ Met Gala

The two singers join Alessandro Michele, Serena Williams and Anna Wintour as co-chairs

The new theme for next year’s Met Gala has been revealed by Vogue to be ‘camp’.

Vogue announced that Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay ‘Notes on Camp’ is the inspiration behind the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute’s Spring 2019 Exhibition – which also happens to be the theme for the glamorous Met Gala event.

The magazine also revealed the chairs of the gala include the likes of Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Alessandro Michele, Serena Williams and Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

In Sontag’s essay, she described ‘camp’ as “an affinity for certain arts rather than others” and listed several things she found camp including Swan Lake, Flash Gordon, Mae West, Busby Berkeley movies and many more.

“Camp’s disruptive nature and subversion of modern aesthetic values has often been trivialized, but this exhibition will reveal its profound influence on both high art and popular culture,” said Metropolitan director Max Hollein.

Judging by last year’s Catholicism theme, we are sure to get a lot of iconic looks when the Gala takes place on May 6.
