Lady Gaga slams Melania Trump for ‘hypocrisy’ over anti-bullying pledge

By Will Stroude

Considering her husband has led one of the most socially-divisive presidential campaigns in history, the world was somewhat stunned when, last week, potential future US First Lady Melania Trump pledged to fight bullying if Donald Trump becomes president.

At the time, she said:

Our culture has gotten too mean & too rough, especially to children & teenagers. It is never OK when a 12-year-old girl or boy is mocked, bullied, or attacked; it is terrible when that happens on the playground. And it’s absolutely unacceptable when it’s done by someone with no name, hiding on the internet. We have to find a better way to talk with each other, to disagree with each other, to respect each other.

Yesterday, Lady Gaga has hit out at Melania’s pledge, accusing her of “hypocrisy,” pointing out that husband Donald Trump is “one of the most notorious bullies we have ever witnessed.”

Gaga has been a strong supporter of anti-bullying campaigns, including her own Born This Way Foundation, which “is committed to supporting the wellness of young people and empowering them to create a kinder and braver world.”

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has pledged to sign laws that would make LGBT discrimination legal, has chosen a running mate who believed in conversion therapy for LGBT children, and accused Mexico of sending “rapists” to America, while having several sexual assault claims made against him.
