Jenny McCarthy slams Charlie Sheen for not telling onscreen love interests about HIV diagnosis

By Will Stroude

Former Two and a Half Men star Jenny McCarthy has hit out at Charlie Sheen for keeping his HIV diagnosis from actresses who’ve played his love interests onscreen.

The Playboy model-turned actress – who portrayed Sheen’s on-off onscreen girlfriend Courtney in a handful of episodes on the CBS sitcom between 2007 and 2011 – said that it was “scary” and “not fair” that the actor hadn’t told co-stars involved in romantic scenes with him about his status.

Sheen revealed on Tuesday that he was first diagnosed with the virus in 2011, saying: “I always led with condoms and honesty when it came to my condition”.

According to PageSix.com, McCarthy told listeners of her SiriusXM radio show yesterday (November 18): “Now being on Two and a Half Men myself, I feel like in playing a love interest, you would think there would be some type of, I don’t want to say criminal issue, but I don’t even know how to feel about that”.

While the 43-year-old acknowledged that you can’t transmit HIV from kissing, she argued that she had been made to sign an on-set medical disclosure form, which included things like cold sores.

“I was like, ‘Wait a second. If I have to be upfront about a herpes, how could you not be upfront about HIV?'” she said.

“I look back and I’m like, ‘OK, that would have been some valuable information.’ I mean, look how many people have played his love interest on the show?”

Revealing that in real life she asks all her potential sexual partners to undergo sexual health screening, she continued: “I wouldn’t sleep with anyone until I got the right paperwork, so even playing his love interest on the show back in the day, I go like, ‘Ick, ugh, that’s not fair and scary.'”

The Scream 3 star added that while she had “sympathy” for Sheen “because he’s sick and it’s awful”, he needed to “take some major accountability with many people in his life.”

Meanwhile, former Who’s the Boss star Danny Pintauro – who made headlines around the world after opening up about his crystal meth addiction and HIV status in a candid interview with Oprah in September – has praised Sheen for going public about his health, arguing that society is poised to change the way it treats people living with the virus.
