Ireland’s same-sex marriage referendum: Touching message of support from nine-year-old found in ballot box

By Ryan Love

While vote counting is underway in Ireland, one nine-year-old’s adorable message of support has been discovered inside a ballot box.

The hand-written note was found during the count in Dublin this morning, and quickly spread on social media.

The touching message, seen below, reads: “I vote yes. Carey. Aged 9″.

Early indications show that the ‘Yes’ vote is likely to be successful, paving the way for marriage equality for same-sex couples in Ireland.

A high turnout has been recorded across the country, while the #hometovote movement captured attention globally yesterday, as Irish citizens returned home to make their voices heard in the historic referendum.
