David Cameron: ‘What changed my mind about gay marriage’
By Josh Haggis

David Cameron has explained what helped him change his mind on same-sex marriage.
Despite publicly speaking out against a change in marriage legislation before becoming Prime Minister, Cameron’s government went on to introduce same-sex marriages into the UK in 2014 under a landmark ruling.
In a new interview with Buzzfeed, Cameron explains that the ongoing issue of homophobic bullying in schools was one of the driving forces behind his change in viewpoint.
“I think one of the most important things is what happens in our schools, particularly homophobic and biphobic bullying,” said Cameron. “It’s one of the reasons I became so convinced about gay marriage.”
“It’s only when a society says marriage is there for everybody whether you’re straight or gay, you end this idea that it’s somehow fair to criticise people or do down people because of their sexuality,” he added.
