China has revealed they will not be introducing same-sex marriage any time soon.

Following Taiwan legalising same-sex marriage, many have called for China to follow suit but now a spokesperson for the Chinese government announced the country will not be introducing marriage equality.

According to Reuters, Zang Tiewei – the spokesperson for the parliament’s legal affairs commission – said: “This rule suits our country’s national condition and historical and cultural traditions.

“As far as I know, the vast majority of countries in the world do not recognise the legalisation of same-sex marriage.”
