Brighton Pride has announced a special theme for its 25th anniversary year.

Next year’s event will be a Carnival of Diversity, with organisers promising a “creative, lively, uplifting and empowering visual showcase”.

The first Pride festival took place in Brighton in 1973, but the second festival only took place 18 years later in 1991 – meaning that 2015 is the 25th time the city’s LGBTI community has put on the event.

Brighton Pride’s director, Dulcie Weaver, said: “The Pride Community Parade perfectly reflects the diversity of the city as organisations, businesses and community groups come together.

“It’s essential Pride continues to have a campaigning message, so alongside the celebrations, Pride will continue to highlight the plight of LGBT communities across the globe that are criminalised and denied freedom.”

It was recently announced that the festival has been granted permission to continue until at least 2020.

Brighton Pride 2015 will take place over the weekend of August 1 and 2.
