Looking for the best LGBT destinations in San Francisco? Virgin Holidays have picked their favourite spots

A digital marketing executive at Virgin Holidays has compiled a list of the best LGBT friendly locations

By Steve Brown

It probably goes without saying that Virgin Holidays staff have a passion for travel so who best to give the lowdown to the world’s best LGBT destinations than our own!?

This month Sohail, a Digital Marketing Executive, shares his favourite spots in San Francisco…

San Fran is F.I.E.R.C.E.

For me, it’s the best city in the USA. Why? Well, the people are really friendly and awesome (did I mention that the men are super-hot there?).

It has great attractions from Alcatraz to Golden Gate Bridge or amazing vineyards like Napa and Sonoma are just around the corner. But, it’s definitely the bars and clubs which is the real reason why this city has a special place in my heart.

It’s a bit of a no brainer to visit San Fran if you’re LGBT (since it’s the gay capital of the USA), but if you really want to “feel your oats” then make sure you check out my top picks in the city’s gay district – Castro.

The Café

The Café has been a staple of the Castro night scene and has become one of the most unique venues in San Francisco.

Why unique? Well, simply put it has 3 bars, a huge dancefloor with LED “dance grid” (can you just imagine twerking on that?), amazing drag shows and a cute open air patio with glass skylight.

Many of Rupaul’s Drag Race alumni perform here from Honey Mahogany to Bianca Del Rio so if you want to sissy that walk than make sure you head to The Café.

Address: 2369 Market St. (At Castro St.), San Francisco, CA 94114, USA

Badlands

Badlands is one of San Francisco’s most popular gay video / music bar for entertainment and dancing.

Located in Castro it has been around for more than 20 years. With TV screens belting out top 40 hits from Nicki Minaj to Whitney Houston, Badlands is the place to channel your inner Britney or even your ‘Dirrty’ Christina Aguilera!

From 9pm they serve 2 for 1 cocktails (for all you purse clutchers out there) and have gorgeous go-go dancers, this place is not to be missed!

Address: 4121 18th St., San Francisco, CA

Hot Cookie

After a long night out of partying then you’re obviously going to be hungry right? Well, what better place to go to than Hot Cookie.

Hot Cookie is a Castro icon – what they sell is all in the name but they are famous for their notorious erotic treats! If you didn’t get a holiday romance than what fun than to eat a cookie shaped like a male’s ‘you know what’ and be the envy of all your friends. *selfie needed*
