Everybody loves a party, especially the LGBTQ community. So, what better way to celebrate than throwing a house party? With LGBT History Month just a couple of weeks away, it’s time to brush up on some ideas for your own party.

A White Party

White parties have become synonymous with the gay community. Of course, you can go a step further beyond the all-white dress code by decorating the home with themed balloons, lights, as well as foods, like icing-laden cakes.

You could even make some White Lady and White Russian cocktails for guests upon entry. If you’re going the extra mile, send some white party-themed invitations.

Casino Night

There are few things more glamorous and showbiz than a casino-themed party. Champagne, mini roulette tables, and black & red balloons are some of the must-haves of any casino party. Online casino games have been extremely popular during the pandemic – so what better time to turn virtual entertainment into the real deal.

This is your chance to go full Vegas with the decor, dress up as James Bond, and roll out the red carpet for your guests. There’s a lot of entertainment potential too with the casino-themed games, or even dice-rolling games. We all know how a game of poker can quickly derail…

Gay Movie Marathon

For something just as fun but much more low-key, a movie marathon is a great alternative. Ideal for a more relaxed crowd put on some popcorn, get in your pajamas and cosy up on the sofa with a bunch of comfy blankets.

There are many iconic and influential gay movies throughout cinema history, such as Brokeback Mountain, The Birdcage, and Call Me By Your Name. There are lots of ways to go about choosing the films and how you watch them. You could go through them in the order they were released, as just one example.

Movie marathons can also inspire a sense of competitiveness of who can stick out the entire marathon, but it’s a relaxed enough party idea that people can come and go as they please – of course with some hilarious commentary at times on what’s going on in the film.

Rainbow Dinner Party

For a slightly sophisticated (or perhaps not) yet fun evening, throwing a dinner party can be a great idea. People are increasingly interested in fine dining, or simply healthy eating, so it can be a lot of fun creating a menu. Albeit a lot of work too.

And why not up the ante by making it rainbow-themed! This can be in the dress code, decor, and/or the menu (beetroot and multi-coloured carrots come to mind, along with a homemade multilayered cake of course!)

A rainbow party could certainly extend beyond dinner of course. You can make the evening as loud and eventful as you choose depending on the after-food entertainment.

LGBTQ Trivia Night

If you’re after a slightly more low-key party, an LGBTQ trivia night could be a lot of fun. Trivia nights can be more entertaining than you anticipate, and it’s a chance for people to show off their knowledge.

You could easily turn a traditional trivia night into an LGBT-themed one with questions surrounding LGBTQ history. This could be a good way for everyone to learn something whilst trying to win the prize on offer – perhaps some mystery gift bags.
