Netflix releases teaser trailer for Spanish gay film La Bola Negra – WATCH HERE
Starring Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close, the story moves between 1932, 1937 and 2017, exploring LGBTQ+ identity across Spain’s history

Netflix has released the official teaser trailer for the Cannes Film Festival-acclaimed gay generational film La Bola Negra.
The film will screen at the Telluride Film Festival before its US theatrical release on 16 October, before arriving on Netflix on 2 December in the US and Canada.
La Bola Negra spans nearly a century of Spanish history, following three generations of men whose lives are connected by love, desire and pain.
What is La Bola Negra about?
The story moves between 1932, 1937 and 2017, exploring LGBTQ+ identity, freedom and family legacy against the backdrop of Spain’s history.
The story follows Carlos (Milo Quifes), who longs to belong in a divided Spain; Sebastián (Guitarricadelafuente), who finds connection across enemy lines during the Spanish Civil War; and, 80 years later, Alberto (Carlos González), who discovers a buried family secret.
Penélope Cruz and Glenn Close also appear in the film as Nené Romero and Isabelle.
The film takes its name from an unfinished play by gay Spanish poet and playwright Federico García Lorca, who was assassinated in 1936. The film explores his far-left legacy through a contemporary lens.

La Bola Negra is directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi (Los Javis), who also co-wrote the film with Alberto Conejero.
Speaking to Tudum, Calvo and Ambrossi said: “When we began writing La Bola Negra, we wanted to tell a story about freedom, legacy, and the importance of LGBTQ+ visibility.
“Above all, we wanted to honour the generations of people whose courage and sacrifice made our freedoms possible today.”
