Sam Smith: ‘I fell in love with a straight guy’
By Sam Rigby

Sam Smith has revealed that the man who inspired his debut album In The Lonely Hour was straight.
The Stay With Me singer has previously admitted that he wrote material for his album after falling in love with a man who didn’t love him back – find out more here.
Speaking to The Sun, he went into further detail, saying: “It’s really tough to explain. But no, he’s not gay. Nothing ever happened between us. I know he loved me too, but not in that way.”
He added that he believes the object of his affection “had his guard up a lot”, and wasn’t open to falling in love with somebody of the same sex, despite having strong feelings.
He explained: “I feel like love is a massive spectrum. But some people are so bothered about boxes, like the way they look and the way they’ve been brought up, that they don’t let themselves go to fall in love with other people.”
Smith recently joked that his New Year’s resolution for 2014 was to kiss loads of people and have lots of sex – read more here.
