“I’m a singer and a songwriter. I get upset sometimes because I don’t talk about it too much,” he told Ellen. “People say, ‘he doesn’t want to be a spokesperson’ for the gay community.’
“I do, of course I do, but I want to be a spokesperson for everyone,” he explained. “You know, straight people, gay people, bisexual. I don’t want it to be limited.”
Despite Smith’s comments, the soul singer was ranked at Number 7 in the Independent on Sunday’s Rainbow List 2014 last month (November), which ranks the 100 most influential LGBT people in the UK.
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that Smith is set to record a cover version of Whitney Houston’s It’s Not Right but It’s Okay – get all the details here.
