Mel B: ‘I’m not sure Spice Girls would’ve worked on X Factor’

By Sam Rigby

Mel B has admitted that she isn’t sure the Spice Girls would have found success on a show like The X Factor.

Scary Spice – who serves as a judge on the new series of the ITV singing competition – said that she doesn’t know how the group “would have worked out” if they had auditioned.

Asked about how the Spice Girls would have fared, she replied: “Oh god, I don’t know how the Spice Girls would have worked out if they auditioned for this show. I’d like to think they would get through, but I don’t know.”

Meanwhile, the Feels So Good singer had nothing but praise for her fellow judge Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, who she described as “strong” and “fabulous”.

Asked what Cheryl would have been called had she been in the Spice Girls rather than Girls Aloud, Mel said: “For a start I absolutely adore Cheryl. She’s gorgeous, she’s an artist, she’s confident, she’s strong, everything I love in a woman, she is fabulous.

“What would her Spice Girl name be? Probably something obvious like Geordie Spice.”

She added that Louis Walsh would have to be Nutty Spice as “he’s a little bit out there”, but decided not to reveal her choice for Simon Cowell.

“I don’t want to say anything about Simon because I don’t want to get fired, so I’ll leave that one blank!” she said.

The X Factor returns to ITV on Saturday (August 30) at 8pm.
