Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett working on ‘Cheek to Cheek’ follow-up

By Will Stroude

Two years after the release of her third solo album Artpop, Lady Gaga is finally giving the fans what they want: Another jazz covers album with Tony Bennett!

Bennett has revealed that the pair are already putting their minds to the follow-up to last year’s – in fairness, not unsuccessful – project that was Cheek to Cheek, and that it will be an album of Cole Porter covers.

The legendary crooner told Vulture: “Yeah, we’re doing an album. It’s going to be all Cole Porter songs. He was the best writer of all of them in the Great American Songbook. Highly intelligent. We’re going to have a lot of fun doing that.”

The 89-year-old was keen to since his collaborator’s praises too, adding: “Gaga is a gorgeous singer, and when she sings a great ballad, I get goose bumps. She helped me and I helped her by doing Cheek to Cheek.

“Through her telling her audience how much she likes me, all of them became fans of mine, all these young teenagers. On the other hand, by her singing these beautiful songs on the album, the audience I have, all of them said, ‘God, I never knew she sang that wonderfully.’

“So we both helped one another. We get along great. She’s got a lot of talent. I think someday she’s going to be very big in films, which I’m not too interested in. I work live, to audiences, but I think she’s going to surprise everybody and make some good films.”

Despite the fact this is obviously REALLY EXCITING news, we feel it’s important to reassure everyone that Gaga’s fifth studio album is reportedly well under way, and that the 29-year-old has already been posting teasers for #LG5 from the studio.

Meanwhile, one person who proably isn’t counting down the days until a new Gaga record in any form is the legendary Grace Jones, who didn’t mince her words when she claimed she couldn’t “feel a soul” during her various encounters with the Bad Romance singer – click here to find out more.
