runner-up Lucy Kay has signed a record deal with Sony Classical.

The 25-year-old soprano, who hails from Leicester but now lives in Glasgow, was narrowly pipped to the post in this year’s Britain’s Got Talent by boyband Collabro.

Her rendition of Nessun dorma received across-the-board praise from judges Simon Cowell, Alesha Dixon, Amanda Holden and David Walliams.

“I have not been so excited about a classical soprano since I discovered Charlotte Church,” her manager, Jonathan Shalit, said in a press release.

“Lucy Kay will be the UK’s most popular soprano ever,” he then predicted. The singer will release her debut album in the autumn.

Meanwhile, Britain’s Got Talent winners Collabro signed a record deal with Simon Cowell’s label, Syco, earlier this month – click here for further details.
