Share your stories loudly and proudly as TikTok celebrates Pride with #ImComingOut campaign

We might not be out in the streets, but we’re here and still very much queer

By Thomas Stichbury

Three little but power-packed words that will mean something to every single LGBTQ person: I’m Coming Out.

And not just because it will bring back triggering memories of the time you butchered Diana Ross’s classic 80s anthem at karaoke. We’ve all been there, hun.

To mark Pride month, TikTok is celebrating the stories of our brothers and sisters, and everyone in between, living their lives loudly and proudly.

In the above video, TikTok’s LGBTQ users read aloud an uplifting poem by Otamere Guobadia.

“I’m coming out for the queer and now, for those-who-will-no-longer-live-in-fear-and-now, the moonlit-academy-award-goes-to-and-now,” they begin.

“Coming out full of fire this time, we are the rage, riot and choir this time, we matter and we will be seen and heard, in song, in dance, in protest, in love,” the poem continues.

They conclude: “We’re coming out for a future as brave as we are, to make the world we want to be proud of.”

Miss Corona may have cancelled physical parades this year – always knew she was a homophobic cow – but that doesn’t mean you can’t still wave your rainbow flag.

TikTok is filling the, ahem, hole nicely by giving the LGBTQ community their platform to speak our truths.

Use the hashtag #ImComingOut – Diana really should give us a cut of the royalties – and complete it with your unique story.

Keep it short though, babes, you only have 15 seconds.

Or, give us a whirl in your planned Pride 2020 look with a quick outfit transformation, or make-up makeover.

Share your #ImComingOut story on TikTok now. The campaign ends Sunday 19 July
