WATCH | Rising gay pop star ‘Who Is Fancy’ teams up with Ariana Grande

By Nick Bond

Rising out gay pop star Jake Hagood, who goes by the stage name ‘Who Is Fancy’, made one of his first big US television performances overnight, delivering his new single Boys Like You alongside the song’s guests vocalists Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor.

With the bearded singer clad in a sequined green jacket and throwing some Vogue-worthy moves, it was an unashamedly camp performance of what is – at least for Fancy’s part – an unmistakably gay song: “Try try try / To follow the rules, I break everyone of them with boys like you. My oh my, doing what I always do / Yeah I’m crossing every line to get to boys like you,” he sings in the chorus.

While Who Is Fancy’s debut single Goodbye failed to seriously dent the charts, given the star power behind this new offering, it might have more of a chance of making waves – indeed, its cheeky cartoon music video (hello pool boys) has already racked up almost half a million views on YouTube:
