Tanya Reynolds joins a growing number of stars exiting Netflix’s Sex Education ahead of the show’s fourth season.

Reynolds, 30, portrays alien-loving Lily Iglehart whose narrative in the show’s early seasons revolved around her actively trying to lose her virginity.

“I think that for Lily, her storyline was just wrapped up quite nicely at the end of season three. So she’s got no loose ends to tie up, she had quite a happy ending,” Reynolds told Digital Spy in a recent interview.

“At the end of last season, everyone kind of gets scattered, and I think that’s just a good opportunity to bring in some new characters.”

She continued: “I absolutely will miss [her]. I love, love Lily with my whole entire being and I had the best time on those three seasons, and I will miss it for sure. I will miss Lily, and I will miss the gang. But it just kind of feels very right. It feels like time.

“It felt like it was my time.”

In season two Lily met Ola (Patricia Allison), with whom she initially became friends with before building a romance.

Reynolds’ co-star Allison has also announced she will not be returning for the next Sex Education season.

Allison announced her departure on Capital Xtra Breakfast, saying: “I absolutely have loved my time on Sex Education, and I’m so sorry to have to break that to you guys. I’ve been doing it for three years and I’ve loved it.”

Reynolds already has future projects lined up having joined the cast of Channel 4 six-part series, I Hate You cast, which will focus on two outlandish best friends navigating today’s complicated world.

Season four of Sex Education was announced last September and production is due to begin soon but there has been no release date announced so far.

Other Sex Education cast members with new projects include Ncuti Gatwa, who will be stepping into the shoes of the Time Lord in the new Doctor Who series.

Sex Education is available to stream on Netflix now.

The Attitude July/August issue is out now.
