Rose McGowan slams Caitlyn Jenner: ‘Woman of the year? Not by a f**king long shot’

By Will Stroude

Just a day after it was revealed that the husband of a 9/11 hero has returned his late wife’s Glamour ‘Woman of the Year’ in protest at Caitlyn Jenner’s own win this year, Charmed actress Rose McGowan has taken a pop at the transgender reality star’s role model credentials.

Arguing that Jenner has led a “life of male privilege” and needs to “wake up” to feminist issues, the Charmed actress seemingly took issue with the former Olympian’s acceptance speech at last week’s event, in which she said “hardest part about being a woman is deciding what to wear”.

In a Facebook post which has since been deleted, McGowan wrote: “Caitlyn Jenner you do not understand what being a woman is about at all.

“You want to be a woman and stand with us – well learn us. We are more than deciding what to wear. We are more than the stereotypes foisted upon us by people like you.

“You’re a woman now? Well f**king learn that we have had a VERY different experience than your life of male privilege.

“Being a woman comes with a lot of baggage. The weight of unequal history. You’d do well to learn it. You’d do well to wake up.

She added: “Woman of the year? No, not until you wake up and join the fight.

“Not by a long f**king shot.”

The 42-year-old has since attempted to clarify her remarks, saying: “Let me amend this by saying I’m happy for what she’s doing visibility wise for the trans community, and I’m happy she’s living her truth, but comments like hers have consequences for other women.

“How we are perceived, what our values are, and leads to more stereotyping. If you know you are going to be speaking to media about being a woman, maybe come to understand our struggles.”

It’s not the first time the actress’s support of LGBT rights has clashed with her feminist outlook. Last year, she hit the headlines after drawing attention to gay male misogyny, saying “in some ways, it’s more damaging [than straight male misogyny], because it’s coming from men that have faced so much hate.”

Her latest comments come just days after footage emerged Jenner confronting a group of angry protesters calling her an “insult to trans woman” outside an LGBT charity event – click here to find out more it out.
