The Pet Shop Boys are to make a cameo appearance on long-running BBC radio soap The Archers.

It was revealed during the episode that aired this Friday (August 22) that Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe are “last-minute replacements” to headline Loxfest, the show’s upcoming fictional musical festival.

The electro-pop duo will duly save the day when they make their appearance on The Archers tomorrow evening (August 25).

“It’s a thrill for us to enter the world of The Archers, the UK’s most famous radio drama,” said the Pet Shop Boys of their cameo. The Archers, which debuted in 1950, regularly attracts over five million listeners each week on BBC Radio 4.

Sean O’Connor, the show’s Editor, added: “Loxfest is the first time The Archers has mounted a summer music festival on this scale, so we’re completely thrilled to have secured an iconic British act – the Pet Shop Boys- to headline for us.”

Other famous names to have appeared in The Archers over the years include Dame Edna Everage, Princess Margaret, Alan Titchmarsh, Griff Rhys Jones and Judi Dench.

Last month (July), the Pet Shop Boys premiered their musical tribute to WWII code breaker Alan Turing at the BBC Proms. Read our review of the memorable performance here.
