Nico Tortorella is set to continue his ascent as one of TV’s most high-profile genderfluid stars in the upcoming Walking Dead spin-off.

The star of Screan 4 and Younger, who came out publicly as genderfluid in 2018 and also identifies as sexually-fluid, has landed a leading role in The Walking Dead: World Beyond, the latest instalment in the zombie horror TV franchise.

Originally set to premiere in April before coronavirus led to its postponement, the AMC series now has its first official trailer ahead of its rescheduled US premiere on 4 October.

Set 10 years after the onset of the zombie apocalypse, World Beyond follows “the first generation to come-of-age in the apocalypse as we know it.”

A synopsis adds, ominnously: “Some will become heroes. Some will become villains. In the end, all of them will be changed forever. Grown-up and cemented in their identities, both good and bad.”

The new trailer gives us our first glimpse of 31-year-old Tortorella’s character, Felix Carlucci, who’s described as “an honourable man of his word who isn’t afraid to fight for others’ safety and acceptance.”

The Walking Dead: World Beyond premieres on 4 October on AMC in the US. Check out the first trailer below:
