Listen to Cyndi Lauper, Sara Bareilles charity mash-up

By Josh Haggis

Cyndi Lauper and Sara Bareilles have recorded a mash-up of two of their best-loved hits for charity.

Titled Truly Brave, the charity mash-up combines elements of Lauper’s 1986 classic True Colors with portions of Brave, Bareilles’s hit single from last year.

Lauper and Bareilles recorded the song to raise money for the fight against children’s cancer, and in addition to the two singers, the accompanying video features footage of young cancer patients from The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

The Truly Brave video is part of the ‘Shine A Light’ initiative, a year-long programme from The Today Show in the US to shine a spotlight on good causes deemed to be in need of exposure.

The Today Show’s co-host Hoda Kotb, herself a breast cancer survivor, said of Truly Brave: “I now know what it feels like to struggle with cancer. But what I can’t fathom, is what it’s like for a little kid to face such a grown-up disease. When I visit paediatric hospitals, all I want to do is make it better. If music helped me, I thought maybe I could give these kids the gift of that perfect song. A song just for them.”
