Listen to Annie Lennox’s cover of ‘Summertime’

By Josh Haggis

Annie Lennox has unveiled her cover of Summertime – and you can hear it below.

In her second live performance video released this month (September), Lennox covers the classic song from George Gershwin’s 1925 opera Porgy and Bess, which has been recorded over the years by singers including Sam Cooke, Ella Fitzgerald and Janis Joplin.

Lennox’s version will appear on her forthcoming covers album Nostalgia, which finds the singer tackling songs made famous in the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. Check out the full tracklisting here.

Lennox has said of the songs on the album: “I thought, ‘I wonder what my voice would be like. Would these songs suit my voice?’ It was like a little challenge. I just sort of got to know them, became friends with them really and had a great deal of joy in the process.”

Lennox’s cover of I Put a Spell on You was premiered earlier this month – watch the video here

Nostalgia will be released in the UK on October 27 on Island Records.
