Kid Cudi says he wore a dress on Saturday Night Live in tribute to the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain.

Cudi wore the floral number for an emotional performance of his song ‘Sad People’ on Saturday [below].

Discussing the look on Twitter, Cudi – known for films like Need For Speed and Don’t Look Up, and for playing a gay character in James White – said the dress was designed by Virgil Abloh.

“Man-made masterpiece”

“I told [Virgil] I wanted to show love to Kurt w a floral print sundress and this man made a masterpiece [sic],” Kid Cudi later said on Twitter.

“Thank You @virgilabloh ur a fuckin genius!! Love you man we did it!!!”

“Wearing a dress shows I can be as feminine as I want”

Grunge band Nirvana were known for songs like ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ and ‘Heart-Shaped Box’. Cobain, who died in 1994 at the age of 27, was famously outspoken in his support of gay people.

He once told the LA Times: “Wearing a dress shows I can be as feminine as I want. I’m a heterosexual… big deal. But if I was a homosexual, it wouldn’t matter either.”

According to reports, he was once arrested for spraypainting cars with the words “God is gay”.
