Sam Smith wins Brits Critics’ Choice Award 2014

has been named the winner of the 2014 Brits Critics’ Choice Award.

The Money On My Mind singer beat Ella Eyre and Chlöe Howl to claim this year’s prize, which is voted for by industry experts.

Sam said: “I’m completely overwhelmed! To see my name alongside the list of former winners, artists I admire so much, it is incredible. What an amazing Christmas present. Thank you!”

Previous winners of the Critics’ Choice Award include Adele, Ellie Goulding and Florence & The Machine.

The 21-year-old rose to fame in late 2012 when he featured as a guest vocalist on Disclosure’s hit single Latch, which peaked at number 11 on the UK Top 40.

He collaborated with Naughty Boy on chart-topping track La La La in May and is expected to release his debut album in early 2014.

Sam is also featured on the BBC Sound of 2014 list, alongside the likes of George Ezra and Chlöe Howl, who is interviewed in this month’s issue of Attitude.

He will collect his Critics’ Choice Award at the Brits Nomination Launch on January 9.

The 2014 Brit Awards will take place on Wednesday, February 19 at London’s O2 Arena.
