Watch Rina Sawayama’s exclusive and unseen performance of ‘Bad Friend’ at the Attitude Awards

Attitude's Breakthrough Award winner has a surprise second helping for y'all.

By Will Stroude

Rina Sawayama provided one of the most moving moments from the 2020 Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards, powered by Jaguar earlier this month when she performed her “love letter” to the LGBTQ community, ‘Chosen Family’, from London’s iconic Roundhouse.

What we didn’t tell you at the time, though, was that the pansexual pop star also recorded an exclusive live performance of her single ‘Bad Friend’ from her acclaimed debut album Sawayama for you all to enjoy later (Merry Christmas, and all that).

Attitude Breakthrough Award winner Rina delivered a stand-out second performance in French haute couture-inspired Moschino which proved that, actually, more really is more.

As she accepted her Attitude Breakthrough Award on the night, Rina – who opens up about her life and music in the Attitude Awards issue – paid tribute to her queer family for helping her get to where she is today.

“Being pansexual myself, I’ve been saved by the LGBTQ+ community, quite literally. I was bullied quite badly in school and at university. Both times it was the community who saved my life”, Rina said.

She added: “Remember, there is no timeline to be authentically you, so live your best life.”
