Selena Gomez has been cast as iconic lesbian mountain climber Silvia Vásquez-Lavado in a new film.

Vasquez-Lavado was the first Peruvian woman to summit Mount Everest. She was also the first out lesbian to climb the Seven Summits - the highest mountain on each of the world's continents

'Ice Cream' singer Selena's casting in the film In the Shadow of the Mountain was revealed by Hollywood Reporter yesterday.

"A story of resilience, courage, adventure and humanity"

“Silvia is a force of nature,” producer Donna Gigliotti told the publication, calling the film a "story of resilience, courage, adventure and humanity.”

Vasquez-Lavado is also the founder of Courageous Girls, an organisation supporting survivors of sexual abuse and trafficking, and the author of the memoir In the Shadow of the Mountain, on which the upcoming film is based.

The movie will be written and directed by Little Birds' Elgin James.

Selena's other film to date include The Dead Don't Die, Spring Breakers and A Rainy Day in New York. She is also known for hits like 'Lose You To Love Me' and 'Come & Get It'.
