Olly Alexander has unveiled the video for new Years & Years single 'Starstruck' - and the singer is ensuring his first outing as a solo act leaves a lasting impression.
Directed by Fred Rowson and with high-energy dance moves by Sherrie Silver (who was responsible for choreographing Childish Gambino’s unforgettable 'This Is America' video), the 'Starstruck' video sees Olly haunted by his own reflection as he's pursued through a luxurious mansion.
"Since we’ve all had to stop, all I’ve wanted to do is go out and dance. So I’ve been putting all that pent up energy into the music", says Olly of the infectiously up-tempo track. "'Starstruck' is about the rush you get when you’re with somebody you’re really into, it’s about holding onto a good feeling and not letting it go.
"Like most of us I’ve spent the past year at home, and I wanted to create something super positive and fun for people (and myself) to bop along too.
Whatever we’re doing or wherever we are in life, I think we all deserve three minutes of interstellar ecstasy."
'Starstruck' marks Years & Years' first single since it was announced last month that band members Mikey Goldsworthy and Emre Türkmen were stepping away and that the group would continue as an Olly Alexander solo project.
Reflecting on the amicable split in an interview with Capital FM last week, It's a Sin star Olly said: "Me, Mikey and Emre met, like, 10 years ago. We've been in this band for a decade, and in that time, we've just kind of grown apart musically.
"We kind of stopped making music together, and when we announced that I was going to be Years & Years, it had kind of been a long time coming."
The star added: "For me, I love Years & Years, and these songs that I've written; I don't want to let them go. It just felt right to stay as Years & Years."
