Nick Jonas 'honoured' to play strong gay character in Scream Queens

Nick Jonas says he's "honoured" to play another "strong" gay character in Ryan Murphy's new horror comedy series Scream Queens. The eagerly-anticipated new show finally kicked off Stateside on Fox last night (September 22), and as if we weren't excited enough for the Jamie Lee Curtis and Emma Roberts-starring slasher-fest, it was quickly revealed that Jonas's preppy and "intense" character Boone is gay, and harbouring a secret crush on friend and fellow frat boy Chad Radwell (Glen Powell). nick jonas2 Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the show's LA premiere on Monday (September 21), Jonas - who also stars as closeted gay boxer Nate Kulina on gritty US boxing drama Kingdom - discussed the impact playing a second gay character in as many years could have on those struggling to come out. "I think it's all about being true to who you are," the Levels singer replied. "For Boone, in particular, and this show as a whole, everything is not as it seems. "So I would say get ready to be surprised by a lot of different things. In his heart of hearts, that may be who he is, but we’ll have to find out as we watch." He added: "I've been so honoured to be able to play some really strong gay characters... Whatever I can do for the community is just a blessing for me." nick 2 Asked whether viewers could expect more shirtlessness from his Kingdom or Scream Queens characters, the 23-year-old replied: "I think it might be Scream Queens! There’s a scene or two that I’m shirtless in, but in Kingdom I play a fighter too, so there is a lot. "It’s a lot, it’s a lot of shirtlessness." Don't know about you, but we're sold. Scream Queens airs in the US Tuesdays at 8pm ET on Fox, and will debut in the UK on E4 this autumn.
