"They felt at one point that it was lightning in a bottle, but that point has since faded into the distance.”

It was 2020's biggest show. But in today's ever-changing TV landscape, the story of wild cat enthusiast Joe Exotic, as told in Netflix's Tiger King, might already be "irrelevant".

At least, that's the ruling from Amazon as per Nicholas Cage, who was previously attached to play Exotic in the platform's own Tiger King project.

Confirming he's exited the project at last night's premiere of his new movie Pig (which itself sounds rather amazing), Cage furthermore told Variety the show has been shelved altogether.

"It took so long for it come together"

“We should clear the record,” Cage told the publication. “I read two excellent scripts, which I did think were excellent, but I think Amazon ultimately felt that it was material that had become past tense because it took so long for it come together."

The veteran actor continued: "They felt at one point that it was lightning in a bottle, but that point has since faded into the distance and it’s no longer relevant.”

Ouch.

Tiger King dropped on Netflix only 16 months ago, breaking streaming records and making global stars of Exotic, his nemesis Carol Baskin and husband Dillon Passage, who recently went Instagram official with his new boyfriend.

Cage is also known for roles in critical hits like MandyColor Out of Space and Adaptation.
