A new five-part Apple TV documentary series will investigate how the LGBTQ movement has helped shape TV.

Visible: Out on Television is set to start streaming exclusively on Apple TV+ from February 14 and will look at the importance of TV as an intimate medium and how the LGBTQ movement helped shape television.

Directed by Ryan White and Jessica Hargrave – and produced by Wanda Sykes and Wilson Cruz – the documentary combines archive footage with interviews from the likes of Ellen DeGeneres, Oprah Winfrey, Anderson Cooper, Billy Porter, Rachel Maddow, Don Lemon, Sara Ramirez, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and dozens more.

Each hour-long episode – narrated by Janet Mock, Margaret Cho, Asia Kate Dillon, Neil Patrick Harris and Lena Waithe – will explore themes such as invisibility, homophobia, the evolution of the LGBTQ character and coming out in the TV industry.
