'Moonlight' director Barry Jenkins is back with his new film 'If Beale Street Could Talk'

The director won critical acclaim for the LGBT Academy Award winning 'Moonlight'

The official trailer for Barry Jenkins’ new movie If Beale Street Could Talk has been released.

Jenkins – who is best known for the Academy Award winning gay film Moonlight – is back with another moving picture based around James Baldwin’s novel of the same name.

The film follows Trish, a 19-year-old girl, who is in love with a young sculptor, Fonny, the father of her unborn baby.

However, Fonny is falsely accused of rape and imprisoned but the devoted mother-to-be and their families race to clear his name before the baby is born.

The film – which received critical acclaim after debuting at the Toronto International Film Festival - stars Stephen James of Selma fame as Fonny and newcomer Kiki Layne as Trish.
