A man who pretended to be gay to rob and kill another man has been charged with capital murder.

On April 19, 30-year-old Adrienne Ward was shot while driving, causing him to roll and crash into an apartment patio, Houston deputies said.

Originally, authorities were unable to identify a motive behind the shooting until a tip pointed them to 22-year-old Devonte Garrison.

It was reported by Click2Houston that authorities claim Ward was driving to meet Garrison – who was seen on surveillance video getting out of his car and firing multiple shots into it.

Ward was removed from the car by responding deputies but sadly later died in hospital.

Following the shooting, a tipster known as ‘Bunny’ came forward and revealed she had been speaking to a man who called himself ‘Arzue’ on the Tagged app.

She told authorities that the man – who was later identified as Garrison – bragged about the killing saying he ‘hated homosexuals and that he lured [Ward] to his apartment under the ruse of hooking up’.

Authorities were able to track down Garrison and he was taken to the Harris County Jail where he is being held without bond. His next court date is Wednesday (May 1).
