Lady Gaga reveals fierce artwork for new album 'Chromatica'

Mother Monster recently announced she is delaying the album’s release due to the coronavirus pandemic, but she’s keeping us fed by revealing its artwork

We may not be getting Lady Gaga’s new album this Friday as originally planned (thanks, coronavirus), but we have been given a visual treat in the form of the official artwork for Chromatica.

Mother Monster took to her social on Sunday night to share the stunning image, which shows her in a dangerous-looking metal get-up sprawled across a metal grate.

Shot by Norbert Schoerner and with fashion direction by former Attitude cover stay Nicola Formichetti, the whole thing gives us Stranger Things-meets-Terminator vibes, with the Joanne era’s pastel pink traded in for the hot pink we first saw in the video for Chromatica’s lead single 'Stupid Love'.

While the album release date is still TBC, we’re hoping Gaga doesn’t hold out on us with a new track to tide us over in its absence.

The album artwork includes the Chromatica symbol, apparently a mathematical symbol for sound, according to Gaga in an interview with radio presenter Zane Lowe.

“It’s from what all sound is made from, and, for me, sound is what healed me in my life period, and it healed me again making this record, and that is really what Chromatica is all about,” she said.

“It’s about healing and it’s about bravery as well and it’s really like, when we talk about love I think it’s so important to include the fact that it requires a ton of bravery to love someone.”

Her upcoming tour, The Chromatica Ball, is still due to go ahead at the time of writing, with the first of six dates scheduled for 24 July in France and the last on 19 August in New Jersey, US.

Of course, the Chromatica artwork quickly spawned memes – we’ll leave you with a couple of our favourites.

Chromatica is set for release later in 2020.
