What started off as a harmless promotional interview for Lady Gaga's new album Joanne - out today (October 21) - took a turn for the shady when the singer was once again compared to the Queen of Pop, Madonna.
While appearing on Apple Music's Beats 1 show, DJ Zane Lowe told Gaga: "There is another artist who has lived a very parallel existence Based on this story, which I'm sure you can relate to.
"You know Madonna tells a very similar story... overprotective father... papa don't preach' - you know what I mean?"
Then things got a little awkward. Attempting to set herself apart from Madonna, Gaga responded: "Madonna and I are very different. Just saying. We're very different.
"I wouldn't make that comparison at all and I don't mean to disrespect Madonna, she's a nice lady, and she's had a fantastic huge career, biggest pop star of all time."
A "nice lady", you say?
She continued, and the shade grew thicker as Gaga seems to suggest that she was more talented than Madge.
"I play a lot of instruments. I write all my own music. I spend hours and hours a day in the studio. I'm a producer. I'm a writer. What I do is different," she argues.
"There is spontaneity to my work. I allow myself to fail. I allow myself to break. I'm not afraid of my flaws."
Some fans were pretty unimpressed with the comments, and took to Twitter to take Gaga to task.https://twitter.com/MajorPhilebrity/status/789197196256223232 https://twitter.com/CoralDeVille/status/789370958943547392 https://twitter.com/DitaElectronica/status/789201019829747712 Some were quick to point out that Madonna does in fact play instruments too and has had a hand in songwriting. https://twitter.com/Giveit2madonna/status/789175727220371456 What do you think?
