Jack Whitehall is set to play Disney’s first openly gay – and “very camp” – character.
The comedian - who identifies as straight - joined the cast of the new film Jungle Cruise – based around the Disneyland ride - and will star as Emily Blunt’s brother in the new movie alongside Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
But according to The Sun, Whitehall’s character will be “hugely effete, very camp and very funny” with an anonymous source saying: “He is playing a gay man”.
The film is reportedly set in the 19th Century when homosexuality was illegal, so it will be interesting to see how this character’s sexuality will be portrayed – fingers crossed for not using film ‘stereotypes’.
On Friday (August 10), the comedian revealed a teaser of his co-star explaining the backstory of the ride on Instagram.
He wrote: “‘I’m so honoured to be part of this epic adventure. Filming is underway and I am having the time of my life with my amazing co stars.
“It’s so cool to be part of something of this scale and also as possibly one of the biggest Disney nerds on the planet so exciting to be working on a project with this much history.”
The film is slated for released in October next year.
