Disgraced rugby player Israel Folau has started legal action against Rugby Australia and NSW Waratahs after being fired for homophobic comments.

One of the highest paid Australian rugby player was recently fired by Rugby Australia following a number of homophobic posts on Instagram – his most recent post said all gay people will go to Hell.

Earlier this year, legal representatives for the rugby player have revealed they have filed an application to the Australian Fair Work Commission and are claiming his employment was unlawfully terminated because of his religion.

But now, the devout Christian has confirmed on Twitter that he has started court proceedings.

He wrote: “I confirm I have commenced court proceedings against Rugby Australia and NSW Waratahs.

“Thank you to those who have supported me over this journey – it has meant so much to Maria and me. God bless”

The Australian rugby player was one of the highest paid sportsmen and was on a $5million contract with Wallabies but urged fans to help him pay his $3million legal bills.

More than two million Australian dollars were donated to him after the Australian Christian Lobby set up a fundraising page.
