A man filmed himself burning LGBT children’s and young adult library books and posted the video on Facebook.
Paul Dorr, from Iowa, burnt the books in protest to the second-annual Pride festival in Orange City over the weekend, according to the Sioux City Journal.
Dorr is part of a pro-life and anti-gay group in the American state called Rescue the Perishing and in the video he said he was upset about sexual education in schools and churches which accept homosexuality.
He said: “You won’t be peddling this one anymore. You should all be ashamed of yourselves and repent.”
Dorr threw four public library books into the fire including ‘Two Boys Kissing’, ‘This Day in June’, ‘Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress’ and ‘Families, Families, Families!’
During most of the 30-minute long video, the homophobic bigot details his opposition to the sexual revolution to homosexuality and abortion.
He then pulls out the books and explains why he thinks they are inappropriate.
Dorr says: “It’s a parade of all kinds of lesbian people. It’s all very light and cheerful,” before throwing the book into the flames. “You will not be checking that one out to kids.”
With ‘Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress’, Dorr criticises its message about gender and as well as burning the book, he pulls out a tangerine dress and burns it as well.
The organisers of Orange City’s Pride events released a statement saying: “It is disappointing to see folks break the law in a community where we believe abiding by the law keeps everyone safe.
“We are thankful for the LGBTQ+ community here in NW Iowa for setting a positive example of building community in light of those who do violent, illegal things to prove a point.”
Now, the Orange City’s library is looking into potential legal action.
