1980s cult classic Heathers is the latest film set to be adapted as a TV series.
The 1988 black comedy, which starred Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, portrayed a group of four teenage girls whose clique reigns supreme at a US high school, and though it was only reasonably successful at the time, its popularity has risen in the years since.
A new TV adaptation will apparently show traditional outsiders cast as the main clique.
They will include a Heather Chandler who is overweight, black lesbian Heather McNamara, and Heather Duke – a male who ‘identifies as gender-queer’ and whose real name is Heath.
The pilot episode is currently in development at US cable channel TV Land.
It's not the first time this film has been tipped for the small screen treatment. A spin-off focusing on the daughters of the characters from the film was planned by cable network Bravo in 2012 but never made it to the screen.
