The film is based on Tom MacRae's 2017 stage show, itself inspired by the 2011 documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16 directed by Jenny Popplewell.
"With twists and turns for cinematic pleasure"
“I would say it’s completely faithful [to the show]. We have all of the original creatives - the original director, the original composer and book writer. So it’s completely faithful to the original, with twists and turns for cinematic pleasure, I guess.”
Speaking about the filmmaking process, Harwood said: “It was daunting because obviously lots of people have played the role before on stage.
“But to bring it to the big screen is so important. The fact this story is going to be shared worldwide now is just everything. The experience was a big, big, big learning curve and I feel very, very, very lucky.”
Everybody's Talking About Jamie is due for release in 2021.
