Edinburgh is set to introduce new gender symbols in traffic lights ahead of Pride Edinburgh.
Much like the traffic lights around Trafalgar Square, in London, the Scottish capital has teamed up with Siemens Mobility to change a series of green pedestrian crossing signs to special images to celebrate Pride Edinburgh.
The lights will represent gay, lesbian, trans and heterosexual relationships using four internationally recognised gender symbols.
Around 35 lights will be placed around the parade route – which is set to march this Saturday (June 22).
Unlike London’s lights, once the parade is over and roads are reopened the lights will be changed back.
Councillor Karen Doran, Edinburgh Council’s Transport and Environment Vice Convener, said: “We’re delighted to be helping to display these diversity symbols through the Old Town as part of this year’s Pride Festival.
“We’re proud to be an LGBT+ friendly council and these special traffic signals drive home our message – we welcome everyone to our city.”
