Dr Ranj Singh prescribes a hearty dose of hope, kindness and optimism as he celebrates Attitude Pride at Home.
Scrubbing into our Speaking of Pride, empowered by Bentley video series, television’s much-loved doctor delivers a touching reading of Dr Maya Angelou’s famous ‘Be a Rainbow in Somebody Else’s Cloud’ speech.
Whilst taking part in Oprah Winfrey’s ‘masterclass’ series in 2011, the late poet, author and civil rights activist revealed how she stumbled upon the metaphor in an African-American song from the 19th century.
Dr Maya – who published her seminal autobiography ‘I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings’ in 1969 – says she has tried to put those words into practice ever since.
“When I heard it [the interview] for the very first time, it really moved me and it’s been something I’ve tried to embody ever since,” Ranj, 40, recalls.
He continues: “This particular interview, this particular person I think captures everything that Pride should be about. It’s about supporting one another, helping each other out, especially during your time of greatest need… and being kind, which isn’t just important during Pride month, it’s important all year round.”
Joining Ranj for Speaking of Pride, empowered by Bentley are TV’s Judge Rob Rinder, Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, poet Dean Atta, Little Mix favourite Jade Thirlwall and actor Simon Callow.
