Dolly Parton has said terms such as bisexual, pansexual and gender fluidity have become ‘fashionable’.
Although an icon in the LGBTQ community, the country superstar – who recently surprised audiences at the opening of 9 To 5 on the West End – admitted she is still an ‘old timer’ when it comes to sexuality and gender and believes people label themselves to join the ‘movement’.
She told The Dan Wotton Interview podcast: “For me, I’m still an old timer. Sometimes I think it’s just become kind of fashionable to speak out like that.
“I think some of them even say more than who they really are. I think they just want to be part of that whole movement to make people think that they’re so free and all that.
“But I really don’t know how they feel inside. I know how I feel inside.”
Parton – who has been married to Carl Dean since 1966 – also dispelled rumours that she is gay following her close friendship with Judy Ogle and said she ‘accepts everybody for who they are’.
She continued: “So people say that — because you can’t really have a great relationship with a woman.
“I’m not gay but I have so many gay friends and I accept everybody for who they are.”
